5 Ways to Unleash Your Purpose

Here are my 5 Top Tips for working with greater Purpose:

1. Trust your intuition
We live in a fast-paced world – where we have to constantly make decisions. Most of us use our logical brains to make these decisions, and we end up feeling overloaded, stressed, and burnt-out.

We actually have another two brains that we hardly use: the ‘gut brain’ and the ‘heart brain.’ The former governs our intuition, and the latter is our emotional filter. In the west we have forgotten to use and trust these brains. Now is the time to remember to use them and to learn once more to trust them - not just for personal decisions, but for work-related decisions too.

How does it work? – You look at a decision and set your intention that you’ll use your gut or heart to help you decide. Then you feel a sensation in that area of your body – either a good or a bad one. Why not try it on a simple decision first?

2. Relax and let good stuff happen more
If you’re anything like me, you were brought up to believe that in business,  it’s really important to plan your outcomes – then stick to your plan religiously - to see it through to the very end.

This process worked really well up until 21st December 2012. But then we moved into a new ‘Conscious Era’ of human development for the first time in 26,000 years (according to the Mayans). So it’s not surprising that the old way of doing things doesn’t work as well as it used to. If you’ve been ‘sticking to your guns’ with your plans, it’s likely that you’ve been experiencing frustration, disappointment – even anger, at not getting the results you planned for.

The new era calls for a much greater degree of flexibility, adaptability and fluidity in the way we execute our plans. Part of the process involves relaxing after you start down a path and seeing what shows up – then being open to adapting your plan to new opportunities and situations as they arise.

This may sound pretty obvious – but it’s hard to let go of the need to control and push. I know this to be true from personal experience. But I’ve been experimenting with this technique recently and it’s actually starting to work.

But don’t trust me – give it a go: Relax, breathe, observe – amend.

3. Become your number #1 ideal client.
This is an inspired idea I was given by my good friend Joe Figliano, from ‘The Power Within’ (many thanks Joe). The idea is simple. In this new Conscious Era you can only teach / help others to do something that you have first experienced or overcome yourself.

By seeing yourself as your ‘#1 ideal client’ you set your intention to overcome your own problems using your intuition and by relaxing and letting stuff happen(see 1 and 2 above). And ‘bingo!’ you overcome one of your own challenges, thus giving you a new tool / service / product to help you own clients.

4. Be fearless in telling people who you really are and what you stand for.
The reality is that most of us are conditioned throughout our lives to conform and to do the right thing by our elders – i.e. our parents, teachers, bosses. This rule excludes Genghis Kahn and other ‘super Alpha’ people – but the rest of us mere mortals are governed by this rule, whether we realise it or not.

This means that we are forever limiting ourselves – fearful of being judged or ridiculed if we stick our heads above the parapet and say what we really believe – what we are really capable of – and how we can change the world.

When we find our true Purpose, we can let go of this fear – and really let rip!

I’ve been practicing this technique for a while now and I can tell you it’s a lot of fun. Not only have my communications become more visceral, I have been told they are more interesting to read. And this means people are listening more.

5. Meditate
And last – but certainly not least – the ultimate tool for working with greater Purpose and passion is to meditate. I learned to meditate 9 years ago, but only started using it as part of my work in 2012 (what a coincidence!)

I believe in 10 years time meditation will be a standard operating procedure for every entrepreneur and successful business person. There I’ve said it. Feel free to seek me out in 2022 if this isn’t the case - and to wave this blog in my face.

Why meditate? Because it makes my tips 1-4 (above) possible to achieve:

a) It allows you to access and develop your Intuitive Intelligence (TQ) and your Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

b) It helps you relax and de-stress from the turmoil of overusing your logical brain to make all those decisions

c) It can be used to project what it feels like to be in your clients’ shoes – and so understand what they are struggling with – and how you can resolve those problems using your unique set of skills

d) It can be used to centre you – opening you up to understanding how unique you really are – and so encouraging you to strip away the fear and be your true self.

I hope these 5 tips have given you a few ideas and possibly even inspired you to try them out. I believe it’s time to let go of the rigid, logical processes of the past that hold no weight in this new post-2012 era we find ourselves.
