Turning 'How' into 'Allow'
The tyranny of how closes in all around me. The pressure to know exactly how I will get from A to B tightens around my neck like a tourniquet.
How do I promote my business in a way that will make people buy? What's my plan to grow my business? How should I use social media? Should I invest in advertising? Should I work the phones? Should I sign up to another online course? Where is the cookie cutter system that will guarantee results?
How do I achieve the goals I said I would achieve? Why aren't they achieved already?
I’m told to set my goals for 2016, because I know that is the right thing to do. ‘All successful people set goals’ - so I need to follow suit. The expression ‘if you don't know where you're going any road will take you there’ burns itself into my brain.
Right now setting goals feels as ineffective as trying to stop sand from running through my hands. I already know that the old way of doing things doesn't work anymore, and that setting a rigid business plan or marketing plan - and slavishly following it - simply doesn't work. But what's the alternative? How do I let go of my reliance on knowing ‘how’ I should do things, and switch on my ability to ‘allow’ the right things to happen?
This is the conundrum I've been struggling with for the past few months. And this week I got some powerful answers from my friends KAren and Xavier - who are both further down the track than me on the subject of manifesting outcomes.
This is what I've learnt:
1. There is no universal cookie-cutter ‘system’ that works for us all – because we all have different purposes, different missions, and different beliefs.
2. Yes - I have signed up to the new ‘Conscious Age,’ where the law of attraction works – where we can create our own reality, by harnessing the energy created by our whole-hearted belief in our purpose and mission to improve people’s lives. But I have yet to master it, and I still fall back on the old process of ‘pushing’ my agenda, and allowing fear of failure to drive me to using old-fashioned sales methods.
3. I now understand that there is a big difference between desperately ‘wanting’ an outcome (i.e. X number of people to sign up to a course or an event) and ‘holding the energy’ for the right people (regardless of numbers) tocome and experience what I have to give them
4. I now know that it is not enough to set a price ‘logically’ for a service I offer – I need to truly believe in the value of what I offer, and to set a price that I can hold energetically.
